Tom and Jerry Cartoons under this category
Tom and Spike, living together, happily, scoff through much of the household refrigerator’s contents. They overhear an argument taking place between the owners of the house. The couple decide that the food costs are far too high and that the dog and cat eat too much.
“Well, here we are again. The first of the month, and bills, bills, bills! Something’s got to be done to cut down expenses!”“Yes, dear, but if you look through those bills, you won’t find any of mine in there.”
“Well, there certainly aren’t any of mine in here. Listen to this: Dog food, cat food, dog food, cat food, dog food, cat food, dog food….!“”Well, you wanted to have a dog.“”And you wanted to have a cat.“”Well, let’s get rid of one.”
“That’s a good idea, let’s get rid of one. They eat too much!”
It is resolved that only one of the pets can stay. Both owners state their case for their pets staying: The male’s dog (Spike) is man’s best friend, while the female’s cat (Tom) keeps her company and is at least some use around the house.
Suddenly the wife spies Jerry happily eating away at some food, and declares “Well, there’s one thing a cat can do that a dog can’t do.”
“And what can a cat do that a dog can’t do?” asks the husband.
“Catch a mouse.”
“Right…I’ll make a deal. The one that catches the mouse can stay.”
So begins the chase between Tom and Spike to remain in the house. In their frantic efforts to catch Jerry, the cat and dog destroy the house, cutting up everything from the carpet to the master’s slippers. Both cat and dog are thrown out, while the mouse gets to stay, as “after all, they don’t eat very much.”
The master of the house asks Tom and Spike, “Are you packed yet? Alright then. Take what belongs to you, and GET OUT.” Tom and Spike then promptly run off, out of the house, carrying the refrigerator as the master yells for them to come back.
