In a barnyard, a stray egg rolls from its mother’s nest, stopping directly next to Tom, who accidentally sits on the egg, causing Quacker to hatch from it. The naive duckling immediately jumps to the conclusion that Tom is his mother. Tom, however, is more interested in cooking the little duck. Jerry tries to foil Tom’s plans, whether by rescuing Quacker from becoming roast duck, or educating him in the difference between cats and ducks, but each time, the duck keeps running back to his “mommy“.
Eventually, Tom’s conscience gets the better of him after Quacker realizes that Tom wanted to cook him all along, and Tom actually saves Quacker from willingly becoming a duck dinner. With tears streaming down his face, Tom adopts the duckling as his own child and playfully leads Quacker across the nearby duck pond, with “mother” and son quacking away at each other.
