Tom receives a letter in the post. It is from his cousin George, who is planning a visit. However, as stated in the letter, George is deathly afraid of mice and wants assurances that there are no mice. Tom hammers some wooden planks over Jerry’s mouse hole to prevent him escaping and answers the door. It is cousin George (voiced by Bill Thompsonwho provided the voice for Droopy), perched on a chair, who looks identical to Tom.

H-h-h-h-h-hello, cousin. Did you get my letter?” he asks.”Are you sure there aren’t any mice? OK then, if you say so.“George enters the house, clinging on to Tom for comfort. Tom sets George down on a nearby armchair and plays a cruel prank on him, winding up a clockwork mouse, which predictably frightens George, causing him to crash into the wall behind him.

Jerry, meanwhile, escapes from his hole, and stumbles upon George (who he assumes is Tom). George sees Jerry and shoots off in panic. Jerry runs after him to see what is going on and notices that the cat is afraid of him. Jerry has a ball in scaring him, and when walking off, he bumps into Tom. When Jerry attempts to scare him, Tom gets angry, makes no reaction and instead hits him.

George approaches Tom: “Oh, cousin Tom! That dreadful creature keeps frightening me!” Fortunately, Tom has a plan. Because the two cats look identical, Tom and George are able to confuse and frighten Jerry, giving him a taste of his own medicine. Eventually scaring the mouse by convincing him that they are a two-headed, four-armed and four-legged monster, Jerry leaves the house and seeks sanctuary in the nearest home for mice with nervous breakdowns.
